The opportunity

We’re hiring a senior‑level CPA with strong tax expertise who enjoys owning work end‑to‑end: leading engagements, reviewing returns, advising clients, and mentoring juniors. If you’re ready for more autonomy and influence than you typically get in a larger firm, this role was built for you.

PNW Tax is a smaller firm by design. That means fewer layers, faster decisions, and real partnership with clients. You’ll work directly with the people who set priorities, you’ll help shape how we do the work, and you’ll have the runway to build a long‑term role here.

Leadership opportunity (succession track)

We want someone who’s excited to assist lead a team of ~20, strengthen technical review and client advisory, and co-run the business with an owner‑mindset.

Work environment & schedule

This is an in‑office role to support direct client contact and hands‑on mentoring across the team. Typical hours: extended hours during tax season. Outside of tax season, our standard schedule is 35 + hours per week.

What you’ll do

  • Review and sign (where appropriate) federal and state returns for individuals and closely held entities—especially S corporations (1120S) and partnerships (1065)—with C corps (1120) as applicable
  • Lead tax planning and advisory projects (entity structuring, estimated tax, SALT, multi‑state, transaction support as experience allows)
  • Guide the team on foreign income reporting across individuals and entities (foreign wages, rentals, investments; PFIC awareness), coordinating research and disclosures without requiring a narrow “international tax specialist” focus
  • Oversee and review nonprofit and fiduciary work as needed (990, 1041, 706), ensuring quality, consistency, and practical guidance for clients
  • Manage client relationships: set expectations, communicate clearly, and deliver practical solutions
  • Supervise and coach staff; raise the bar on work quality while keeping the team supported
  • Own workflow and quality control across engagements—helping the firm operate with consistency, accountability, and an owner‑mindset

What you bring

  • Active CPA license
  • Typically, 8–15+ years of recent public accounting tax experience (or equivalent depth), including significant review responsibility and people leadership
  • Strong technical foundation in flow‑through entities—especially S corps (1120S) and partnerships (1065)—and individual taxation; comfort explaining implications to clients
  • Demonstrated experience reporting foreign income (e.g., overseas wages, foreign rentals, foreign investment income; PFIC awareness) at the 1040, 1065, and corporate level as applicable
  • Familiarity with nonprofit and fiduciary returns (990, 1041, 706) or willingness to develop depth quickly
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, solutions‑oriented approach
  • Ability (and interest) to mentor and develop other tax professionals
  • Owner‑mindset: you enjoy improving processes, building consistency, and helping run the practice—not just completing returns
  • Comfort with technology and paperless workflow; ability to learn new systems quickly

Compensation & benefits

Salary range (base): $150,000–$185,000 + (DOE)
